Chemical propulsion - a dead end in the age of space travel

18.12.2021

Today, space companies and national space agencies continue to use chemically propelled rockets to travel in space, do research in the Solar System, or lift satellites or other devices into Earth orbit. Globally, the entire spacecraft industry is now focused on improving jet-propelled missiles and reducing flight (travel) costs.

But this mean of transportation is no longer viable in the future once humanity's aspirations are to undertake interplanetary expeditions and travel as well as the installation of human settlements there. The implications of this are that we will need to invent new means of propulsion if we want to achieve this goal and build human centers or to terraform some celestial bodies if people shall have such technology.

Chemical propulsion does not offer great possibilities in terms of vehicle speed, payload, practicability or costs in relation to the cosmic distances that are colossal. But it is the industry in which we are committed to developing it in the context in which other means of cosmic mobility are in the research or design phase.

Quantum mechanics is a field that has shown that subatomic particles provide many sources of energy. One of these may be exactly what we need to create a more efficient technology than chemical propulsion.
